    Founded by Fabian Barnes in 1987, The Dance Institute of Washington, located in one of DC's prime locations, the heart of Columbia Heights, is a premier dance education platform dedicated to building self-esteem, discipline and the drive for excellence among at-risk children and youth through dance training and arts education; providing professional performance opportunities for dancers; and enhancing Washington’s rich cultural diversity.  With one of the largest state of the art facilities in the District, DIW is committed to providing children and youth in the community the opportunity to develop their social, emotional, intellectual and artistic abilities through the discipline of dance.
