While we like to think we are different from other nonprofits, the reality is that each nonprofit is working toward a common goal: bringing justice to injustice. The nonprofit supports students in marginalized areas of Atlanta, students who have grown up in a justice system that has been, and still is, unfair to them. I am extremely passionate about this cause because I was once one of those students.I noticed differences in school districts when I was still in elementary school. At the time, I didn’t think much of it—I just knew that my brother, who attended school in Alpharetta, received far better resources, such as laptops and tablets, while I, attending school on the east side of Atlanta, was still using torn and outdated textbooks. As I got older and continued to experience inequities in the school system, it began to infuriate me to realize that there were students receiving a much better education than I was. I believe every student should have an equal opportunity in education.At The Children Soar Inc., we mentor our students, provide school supplies and food for their families during the school year, and run a Stop the Violence program. We believe our children are the future and deserve far more than what they see in their communities and schools. The Children Soar Inc knows these students matter, and we want others to see that they matter, too.
