Steve Batley, Sydney Organic Gardens

Steve Batley is the founder and director of Sydney Organic Gardens and Our Backyard Farms.He is a highly experienced landscape architect and permaculture designer, organic gardener, design consultant, and educator. He has over 30 years’ professional experience in the landscape industry.Steve comes from a family of keen gardeners, growing food as a 5-year-old in the backyard with his dad. He spent his youth running around in the bush and visiting friends’ farms. He has kept backyard chickens and grown his own food for decades.Since 1998 Steve has combined landscape architecture with permaculture and organic gardening. He designs landscapes for people wanting to grow food in healthy ecosystems. In backyards, schools, parks, childcare centers, and rural properties. Anywhere really.For 30 years Steve has trialed, observed and tweaked many regen techniques in a range of conditions and soils. He understands landscapes and how to regenerate them.Since 2005 he has delivered workshops, helping thousands of people throughout Sydney how to grow their own food by working with nature.He’s now building a network of regenerative farms that produce a diversity of nutrient rich food in healthy soil on healthy land.‘It’s about nurturing life, building healthy soil, capturing carbon, creating biodiversity, and allowing nature’s complexity to do its thing.’
