As I am coming up on my 2nd year of residency I noticed that the field can sometimes be overwhelming or even underwhelming for myself.Due to this, I started hosting meetup events for mental health workers in the DMV area that are not just networking events but events that are fun, laid back, open to making new friendships as well as connections, and more. I especially love to mentor and be mentored so I use the events as an opportunity to help others who are joining the field by giving them tips on the financial burdens (app and license fees) to how to chose a good supervisor.As the “strong friend” and as a therapist, people don’t realize that sometimes we need support too. Sometimes we need to talk while someone else listens. Sometimes we just need someone to check on us and to look at us as another human who also might just need a mental health break…I recognized this because I need a mental health break too… If you do, come out and let’s talk, play games, and yes I will definitely make you laugh lolMental health workers, you do have a safe space to take a mental health break with your community!
