About PACHRED and SJRI, Brock University

President’s Advisory Committee on Human Rights, Equity, and Decolonization (PACHRED) works to advance equity, inclusion, and decolonization at Brock University. Guided by the recommendations of the Human Rights Task Force, and topical priorities set by the group each year, we collaborate with students, staff, faculty, and community members to challenge systemic barriers, respond to emerging human rights issues, and foster a campus where all members can thrive. Our work is intersectional, decolonial, and community-driven, grounded in the belief that there is no single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives (Lorde, 1982).Reporting to the Office of the Vice-President Research, the Social Justice Research Institute (SJRI) establishes Brock as a Canadian and international leader in advanced transdisciplinary social justice scholarship, innovative knowledge mobilization strategies, and community-university partnerships. The Institute’s primary mission is to create and mobilize knowledge that addresses contemporary social problems, opens pathways to progressive social change, and ultimately, helps to build a more just society in and beyond the Niagara Region. This mission is achieved by: coordinating connections among members, students, and community activists and partners; and editing and publishing an internationally-recognized open access transdisciplinary journal devoted to social justice scholarship and activism.
