Noir Renaissance

NOIR RENAISSANCE was founded in 2023 as a Instagram group chat called Black Weirdos Create. "The "weirdos" part came from a alternative/punk black group chat that was supposed to connect people that felt alone. We all needed more friends and connected over music, discussions, and art." The group branched out with a few artists from New Jersey and New York that wanted to connect with other black artists locally and around the same age. The group chat has now grown to include 60+ visual artists, musicians, filmmakers, and designers. In 2024 the group changed their name to NOIR RENAISSANCE.NOIR RENAISSANCE hosted its first art showcase TYPE SHIT in October 2024 with the MONSTAHOUSE team and ART HOES UNITED in Bushwick. TYPE SHIT had 14 artists, 5 musical guests, and amazing food and drinks provided by Alisha, NOIR'S Hospitality Coordinator.Taliyah, NOIR'S Curator describes NOIR RENAISSANCE as "Artists supporting artists and building an online community that shows up for each other. It's deeper than just connections, it represents that we're not in this alone. The art world is built against artists like us. Knowing that there's someone out there going through the same things you are, it makes you feel empowered. Now that we have the connection to each other we can make our own spaces and that's always been the goal. "
