About NCNW, Greater Harrisburg Section

The National Council of Negro Women is an “organization of organizations,” uniting over 330 campus and community-based sections and 38 national women’s organizations, connecting more than 2 million women and men. Our mission is to lead, advocate for, and empower women of African descent, their families, and communities. Through educational scholarships, mentorship programs, health initiatives, and community support services, NCNW works to create a positive impact in countless lives. Since its founding in 1935 by Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, an influential educator and activist, NCNW has grown under the leadership of remarkable women, including the iconic Dr. Dorothy Height, who led for over fifty years. Today, NCNW's programs center on critical issues that we call our “NCNW Priorities.” Our 501(c)(3) organization promotes education; encourages entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and economic stability; supports women’s health and healthcare access; and advocates for civic engagement.
