Started as a non-profit trade association in 1969, the National Association of Minority Contractors (NAMC) focuses on construction industry concerns common to African Americans, Hispanics, Asian Americans, Native Americans and Women. Membership, however, is open to individuals of all races and ethnic backgrounds. Its membership base includes general contractors, subcontractors, construction managers, manufacturers, and suppliers. The Southern California Chapter (NAMCSC), was established in 1995 to serve and develop the economic base of its local communities by ensuring equal access to public and private construction contract opportunities for women- and minority-owned businesses. The primary purpose of NAMCSC is to provide education and training to minority contractors in construction. Promote the economic and legal interest of minority contracting firms. Advocate law and government actions, which meet the concerns of minority contractors. Bring about more equitable and wider procurement and business opportunities for minority contractors. Reduce and remove the barriers to full equality, which confront minority contractors. The money we raise each year funds our mission to provide education, and sponsor workshops for training and development to small minority and women owned businesses in the construction industry. The funding also allows us support in removing barriers to full equality that brings about wider procurement and increased business opportunities.
