RISE (Regional Internships in Science and Engineering) is a career and professional development program for college students originally from the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) Sanitary Sewer Service Area (SSSA). The program provides meaningful work experiences for students and an opportunity to build long lasting working relationships between students and MMSD service providers (construction contractors, engineering designers, consultants and planning firms) in an effort to expose students to opportunities and prepare them for increased success in the Greater Milwaukee engineering infrastructure job market. The program is sponsored by MMSD and is managed by Prism Technical Management & Marketing Services (Prism), which also conceived and developed the program. The goal of the program is to ensure that science and engineering students from the Greater Milwaukee area, especially those from underrepresented populations, get an opportunity, are connected with local firms, and show the firms and themselves their capabilities, hopefully leading to a professional relationship upon graduation.
