Follow MedChir GlasgowThe University of Glasgow Medico-Chirurgical Society is a student society at the University of Glasgow which organises social and educational events for medical and nursing students at the University. The current President (2017–2018) is Douglas Young. Founded in 1802, we are one of the oldest medical societies in Scotland ad we were formed twelve years before practising physicians and surgeons in Glasgow began to meet for formal instruction. It is one of the oldest societies in the University and was instrumental in founding the Glasgow University Union in 1890. One renowned for being the largest consumer of Tennent's lager this side of the equator, we offer numerous events throughout the year. Our events run on Thursday evenings and range from Scrubby; our annual subcrawl wearing scrubs, to more educational offerings such as OSCE revision nights and Neuro-skills and curry. We have a passionate and dedicated student committee who endeavour to bring you the best events possible. Look out for them wearing yellow T-shirts at our events. Life membership costs £60 and for this you get reduced entry to all our events (which usually have free pints and soft drinks) as well as the chance to vote and run for positions at our AGM.
