The Manistee Board of Commerce was incorporated January 29,1916. It was formed to promote the welfare of the City and County of Manistee and the surrounding territory. In 1944, some of the activities the Chamber was involved in were: airport development, civic improvements, harbor and river development, parks and recreation, post war planning, retail trade, transportation and highways, and tourism. In 1965, the Chamber built and moved to its current location, 11 Cypress Street. Over the years, the Board of Commerce evolved into the Manistee Area Chamber of Commerce.
