Follow Livia De MagistrisHello,I'm Livia :)In my practice, I mainly work with sculpture and independent publishing, particularly zines and artists’ editorial projects. These are the two languages I favor, and in my work they explain and support each other. Zines often serve to narrate and expand the stories and characteristics of the strange sculptural figures I create.During the exhibition phase, I frequently develop animations that offer visitors an additional narrative language through which to engage with the sculptural subjects. My work often draws on archaeological or ancient references, aiming to create post-human forms that do not adhere to binary distinctions such as male/female, human/animal, or animal/plant. Instead, I seek to create characters with blurred boundaries, figures in which, for reasons that are not always clear, we can all recognize something of ourselves.Collective reflection and action through workshops and shared activities play an important role in my research. I enjoy thinking through making together with others, through lessons and, finally, through collective outcomes of these learning moments, sometimes in the form of temporary installations that allow the works of all participants to be observed as a whole.
