Leeds Central America Solidarity Group

We are a group of people who feel passionately about Central America, its people, and their daily struggles against poverty and injustice.We have long standing links with the Community Movement (MCN) in La Concepcion, a town in Nicaragua.La Concepcion, or La Concha, is in a very beautiful mountainous area of Nicaragua, near the Masaya volcano. Many of the people face serious problems such as lack of access to water, poor housing, nutrition and healthcare, lack of land or the means to earn a livelihood.The MCN is an inspiring community organisation entirely run, managed, and owned by local people.  Each ‘barrio’ in the town, and each rural village (‘communidad’) has its own committee of the MCN who hold regular meetings attended by women, men and children of all faith and political persuasions.We are committed to raising money for the MCN to help them to challenge the issues they face such as water privatisation and corruption, and decide priorities for community development.
