About Kid Power, Inc.

At Kid Power, youth ignite their confidence and build the skills to thrive academically, strengthen their social-emotional wellness, and advocate for themselves and their communities.Kid Power, Inc. is a youth development organization founded in 2002 to help young people build the academic skills, confidence, and sense of belonging they need to thrive in school and in life. What began with a small cohort of 12 students has grown into a community-centered organization supporting more than 1,600 youth annually across Washington, DC, and Montgomery County. At the core of Kid Power’s work is a commitment to listening to and learning from the people we support. Youth, families, schools, and community partners actively shape our programs through ongoing feedback loops that inform program design, staffing, and strategic priorities. We believe programs are strongest and have the greatest impact when communities help lead the way. As the needs of DC youth evolved, Kid Power expanded its footprint and service depth. Over the past two decades, we have intentionally focused resources in communities that have historically had less access to opportunity, particularly in Wards 7 and 8. Through strategic growth, partnerships, and program acquisitions, Kid Power now offers a continuum of support that addresses academic growth, social-emotional development, and leadership from elementary school through high school.OUR PROGRAMS:Kid Power delivers three integrated program areas: After-School & Summer Programs provide safe, engaging environments for after-school and summer learning where students receive academic support, enrichment, mentoring, and leadership development. Daily programming combines homework help and tutoring with enrichment in Citizenship, STEM, arts, health and wellness, and evidence-based group mentoring that strengthens social-emotional skills such as self-awareness, emotional regulation, and goal-setting. High-Impact Tutoring (HIT) delivers evidence-based small-group tutoring (approximately 1:3) to accelerate learning and address skill gaps, particularly in literacy and math. HIT integrates proven curricula aligned with school standards and embeds social-emotional learning to build confidence, motivation, and academic engagement. BEAM Mentoring program provides relationship-centered mentoring and enrichment for middle and high school students. Through one-to-one mentoring, group mentoring, and PowerUp! enrichment experiences, including career exploration, financial literacy, and college readiness, youth build strong relationships, set goals, and develop a sense of purpose and belonging.OUR IMPACT:Across programs, Kid Power uses a continuous improvement model that combines standardized academic data, validated surveys, real-time implementation data, and external evaluation. Recent outcomes demonstrate strong gains in both academic behaviors and social-emotional development. Teachers report increased student motivation and engagement; students report greater confidence, self-awareness, and leadership; and families consistently share that Kid Power helps their children find their voice, manage challenges, and believe in themselves. Today, Kid Power continues to refine and strengthen its work in close partnership with schools, families, and communities, ensuring that young people furthest from opportunity have the support, relationships, and skills they need to succeed.
