Follow James McCune Smith PhD ScholarshipThe James McCune Smith PhD Scholarship and Development Programme is an initiative at the University of Glasgow.The James McCune Smith Scholarships fund Black UK-domiciled students to undertake PhD research at the University in any research area in which we can offer supervision. They provide an enhanced experience through external mentors, placements, leadership training, community-building activities and networking opportunities. The scholarship was formed in October 2021 to address the significant underrepresentation of Black students researching at postgraduate level at the University of Glasgow and in the wider academic sector. The programme is designed to empower researchers to advance knowledge, innovate, and make meaningful contributions to their field of study. Our goal is to cultivate a thriving community of scholars, fostering collaboration, creativity and impactful research.
