Established in 1974, Horizon House is a residential and protective work centre in Stellenbosch specialising in the care of adult people with a primary intellectual disability. We provide sheltered employment to 145 residents and to 40 dayworkers. A holistic approach is followed to create a normalised environment for them to live, work, socialise, take part in sport and outdoor activity, and for life skills training and work-related courses. The activities at Horizon House are focused on a holistic and client-centred service. The centre: • Offers residents appropriate accommodation and care, meals, primary medical facilities. • Offers training, development of life skills and job-creation in sheltered work areas for residents and day workers. • Takes care of their emotional well-being, spiritual growth, recreation, and sports development. We offer a safe environment in which adults with different levels of functioning can live together like an extended family, have the freedom to grow as individuals, where they can work, socialise and relax, and be able to live a meaningful life as part of a community.
