General Needs Ltd. is an all-volunteer, 501(C)(3) non-profit supporting homeless veteran’s on Long Island since 2008. General Needs supports the veterans housed in emergency and transitional housing facilities throughout Long Island, Queens, New Jersey and Connecticut. The primary mission of General Needs is to assist homeless veterans & veterans in need to live lives of dignity by providing NEW: Daily-living clothing: underwear, socks, tee-shirts, towels Cold weather items: coats, jackets, hats, scarves, ski gloves, thermal underwear/socks, sweatshirts, sweatpants, blankets Warm weather items: graphic tee-shirts, shorts Footwear: winter water-proof boots, sneakers, summer sandals, shower flipflops Toiletries: Soap, shampoo, toothbrushes/toothpaste, deodorant, razors, powder, sunscreen A secondary mission is to aid homeless veterans, veterans in need as well as their families by providing: New beds and other household items to veterans moving into housing with a VASH-HUD Voucher. Having the basic household items (bed frame/mattress/box spring, bedding, towels, small kitchen appliances such as microwave, coffee maker, can opener as well as dishes, glasses, flatware, pots/pans and other kitchenware) would grant a formerly homeless veteran a fresh start & empower successful independent living.
