About Facts On The Ground

Over the past two years, the University of Michigan has been marked by a surge of disinformation and inflammatory rhetoric surrounding Israel’s defensive war against Hamas in Gaza. Campus spaces - classrooms, libraries, and public walkways - are regularly echoing with chants to “globalize the intifada,” accusations of genocide against Israel, and calls to continue harassing Zionist students, even beyond the current conflict. On October 7, 2025, the two-year anniversary of the tragic attacks perpetrated by Hamas on innocent Israelis, just days before the Trump administration’s 20-point peace plan was accepted, hundreds gathered on campus holding signs that read “The fight isn’t over”, “We will rise again and again,” and “Glory to our Martyrs,” a frightening reminder that extremism will persist long after military engagement has ceased. Despite the challenges of reversing misinformation and rewriting the retrospective narrative, the future of Middle East policy and the pursuit of peace is still being shaped. Since FOG’s inaugural event in November 2023 with Son of Hamas author Mosab Hassan Yousef, we’ve brought voices like Call Me Back podcast host and bestselling author Dan Senor, former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, and CNN host Van Jones to campus, reaching over 5,000 students in person and 7.5 million online. But with tensions high and misinformation metastasizing, the stakes are higher than ever. This event is not just a discussion - it’s an urgent effort to inform and engage a polarized student body that is increasingly shaped by slogans rather than substance - at a pivotal moment in the history of the region.
