About FACL Western

Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (FACL)is a diverse coalition of Asian Canadian legal professionals working to promote equity, justice, and opportunity for Asian Canadian legal professionals and the wider community.FACL is a national not-for-profit organization working closely with other Asian Canadian associations and community organizations. It is affiliated with theNational Asian Pacific American Bar Associationin the United States.Founded in 2007, FACL has since expanded across Canada from its origins inOntariotoBritish ColumbiaandNova Scotia.  On November 18, 2014, FACL officially launched its Western chapter (FACL Western) at a sold-out dinner in Calgary with over 80 guests in attendance, including theHonourable Madam Justice Maryka Omatsu, Canada’s first woman of East Asian origin appointed to the bench. During its inaugural year, FACL Western has hosted over twelve events including its mentorship program launch, which featured theHonourable Mr. Justice Keith D. Yamauchiof the Court of Queen's Bench and a FACL Family Feast, which featuredtheHonourable Judge Gordon Wong of the Provincial Court (Criminal Division).One year later,FACL Western expanded to Edmontonat a stand-up reception on November 18, 2015 with over 94 guests in attendance, including theHonourable Mr. Justice Donald Leeof the Court of Queen's Bench and theHonourable Judge Geoffrey Hoof the Provincial Court (Family and Youth Division).  Since then, FACL Western has expanded to Winnipeg (2016) and Saskatchewan (2017).As of 2017, FACL Western now encompasses the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba with operatons in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon and Winnipeg with over 425 members.
