Follow Eta Sigma Sigma SGRhos -Greenville SC Alumnae ChapterLast Created Best Designed Realizing that Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated needed its presence felt in the Greater Greenville, South Carolina area, Soror Phillis Jones Kirk set out on a mission. In March 1993 Soror Kirk, who was serving as Basileus of the Xi Sigma Chapter in Spartanburg, SC, contacted Southeast Region Syntaktes Soror Ann Broughton. Thus, on Thursday, August 12, 1993 at 7:00 pm, the Eta Sigma Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was officially chartered. Soror Ann Broughton officiated the ceremony. The newly chartered Eta Sigma Sigma Chapter was composed of seven former members of the Xi Sigma Chapter. The chartering members and their offices were: Soror Lula Thompson, Basileus; Soror Catherine Allen, Anti-Basileus; Soror Gladys Barksdale, Grammateus; Soror Vilvin Garrison, Anti-Grammateus; Soror Diane Leonard, Tamiochus; Soror Gabriella Robinson, Epistoleus; Soror Lori Robinson, Parliamentarian; Soror Teresa Floyd, Chaplain; and Sorors Phillis Kirk and Robbin Goldsmith, members. On November 14, 1993, three recent graduates transferred into the alumnae chapter---Sorors Carmelia Johnson and Bridget Austin, graduates of Lander University in Greenwood, and Soror Jennifer Hope Robinson, a graduate of Winthrop University in Rock Hill. With a membership of thirteen by the end of 1993, Eta Sigma Sigma emerged as a staple in the Greenville community. Since its inception, the Eta Sigma Sigma Chapter strives to meet the challenges of the day and continues to grow through Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service.
