Review for : “GOVERNING CHARLOTTESVILLE” (Can I Talk To You Cville? ™️)
Thank you for hosting and facilitating the "SRO's Are Returning to Charlottesville City Schools: Let's Talk About It" discussion. I truly appreciated the opportunity to gather as a community and found the breakout sessions valuable for hearing a range of perspectives. That said, I was concerned that the panel did not engage directly with audience members, which felt at odds with the spirit of the event title and left many unsure whether decision-makers were truly hearing community voices. In the future, I hope to see this kind of forum combine both small-group discussions and structured, respectful dialogue between the public and those in positions to act on our feedback.

Excellent community event, with some key players and community partners. With a high level of participation and efficient flow, the evening allowed for real talk with identifiable takeaways.

I appreciated the facilitators and the overall organization but this sort of event should have been held long ago and there should have been many of them before any important decisions were made. There has not been a good faith effort of the Charlottesville City Schools school board to truly engage the pockets of the community that will most be affected by this. The questions limited responses and unless community members dared to speak or engage in ways that were not part of the format then they never would have been able to get their voices out there.

I was actually shocked at how badly this event went. It was presented as an opportunity to discuss the situation the schools have put us in, but the panel and moderator basically refused to take questions. The breakout sessions were great, but didn't feel like they were a real opportunity to provide feedback to the larger group.

This event was not designed as a conversation, but rather, an opportunity for the board and other parties to talk at the community members who came to voice their concerns. It was not designed to create genuine conversations about the topic.
