Founded on July 26, 1975, through the visionary efforts of the late Alma L. Nealy, the Bakersfield Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has spent five decades transforming lives and uplifting the community. The chapter’s members continue to honor the legacy of Delta Sigma Theta’s Founders by delivering impactful programs, expanding educational outreach, and awarding scholarships that create lasting change.Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit organization committed to providing assistance and support through programs designed to address critical needs in local and global communities. Since its inception on January 13, 1913, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University, the sorority has grown to over 350,000 members worldwide. The organization's Founders began their legacy of activism and empowerment with their first public act: participation in the 1913 Women’s Suffrage March in Washington, D.C.
