The mission of Awakenings is to make visible the artisitc expression of survivors of sexual violence. Awakenings is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a physical and virtual artisitc space in which to engage in an open dialogue that furthers awareness and understanding of sexual violence and promotes healing of survivors through the arts. We currently help survivors heal through art by providing year-round programming at our gallery space in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Chicago. Through showcasing survivor art, our programming provides a safe space and supportive community for survivors who wish to share their stories, and also educates the public about the reality of sexual assault through rotating art exhibits, a digital literary magazine, concerts, and other performances.
