Discover the satisfaction of making something real, useful, and lasting. In this guided workshop for Members, you’ll learn how to shape and finish your very own wooden chopping board — the perfect mix of creativity and practical skill-building. No pressure, no prior experience, just support, good company, and the joy of creating with your hands.
Come as you are. Leave empowered (and a little dusty).
What: 2-day workshop. Day 1, learn about the different types of wood and commence hand-crafting your two-tone chopping board. Day 2 will be spent sanding and putting the finishing touches on your piece before you take it home.
*Please note, the chopping board crafted in this session will be a simplistic design, suitable for beginners.
When: Saturday 17th & 31st January 2026, 10:00am-2:00pm.
Where: The Shed – 27 Birchington Street, Beckenham

Facilitator: Trade qualified carpenter and local school workshop technician, Pauline England, will guide members, sharing her wealth of experience and knowledge about all things wood craft!
Price: GWC Members $120 includes 2-day workshop and take-home chopping board.
Catering: Tea and coffee included. Bottled water and soft drinks $2 each. We recommend bringing your own snacks.
Parking: Free parking is available inside our main gate, along the street, or in the vacant lot beside the premises. **Please leave the top 4 bays for toy library patrons during open hours.
Other: Member induction required to participate. If you haven’t completed your induction, please arrive promptly by 9:30am to allow sufficient time to complete before the workshop commences.
