π What Happened
On July 16, 2025, Dustin Wallace was riding in a semi with his father, Wayne, transporting a logging skidder when tragedy struck. An SUV ran a stop sign and collided with Dustinβs side of the semi, violently ejecting him onto the side of the highway.
Due to storm conditions, Med Flight was grounded, and Dustin was rushed by ambulance to UW Madison Hospital in critical condition. That night, he underwent emergency surgery for severe internal bleeding and suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including:
Numerous broken bones
Broken collarbone & rib
Five pelvic fractures
Broken right ankle & toes
Fractured femur
Dangerous internal bleeding
Over the following hours and days, Dustin endured multiple surgeries, two central lines into his heart, and received 14 units of blood, plasma, and platelets. A filter was placed in his hip after a clot traveled to his lung.
After 13 difficult days in the ICU and trauma unit, Dustin is now finally home β but his recovery is far from over. He remains in a wheelchair, unable to walk, with a cast on his leg and many months of healing ahead before he can begin physical therapy.
His wife, McKayla, has taken a leave from work to care for him full-time. With both parents unable to work, the family β including daughters Ivory (6) and Willow (2) β is facing mounting medical, household, and travel expenses.
