Mathematical Modeling and Animation Contest in MS Excel
Objective of the Competition
Mathematical modeling is one of the most powerful tools for understanding mathematical and scientific concepts. It has now been introduced in the CBSE curriculum in Class IX. However many learners still struggle to master the art of mathematical modeling.
Despite living in a technologically advanced age we rarely use technology effectively for learning mathematics and scientific concepts.
The primary objective of this competition is to reorient students and professionals toward utilizing simple technological tools—particularly Microsoft Excel—to enhance their conceptual understanding of mathematics and science.
Initially I conducted workshops were conducted to teach these ideas but the response was limited due to time constraints and a lack of academic integration. Hence this competition has been designed as a self-driven learning challenge encouraging participants to discover and explore concepts independently.
Why Microsoft Excel
I was exploring for an easy and effective way to learn mathematical concepts through mathematical modeling and animation techniques. For this purpose I have tried many 3D animation and mathematical software but I was unsuccessful. It is a challenge for anyone to learn this software as it requires learning many syntaxes to execute different functions. When students struggle to learn mathematical concepts asking them to learn this syntax can overburden them. Then I tried MS Excel and got my solution. It is simple to learn and a few familiar syntax can be used to solve any problems related to any field of study.
About the Competition
Participants are required to create mathematical models and animations of any mathematical or scientific concept using only MS Excel spreadsheets.
Contest Structure
To ensure fairness the contest is divided into two phases:
1. Registration Phase
2D Modeling and Animation: Learn mathematical and scientific concepts through modeling and animation in MS Excel (DassMath Series)
by Chanchal Dass | 15 August 2021
A new technique of teaching and learning mathematics in 21st century: Geometric way of teaching and learning mathematics using technology (DassMath Series)
by Chanchal Dass | 14 February 2021
A New Technique of Teaching and learning mathematics in 21st century
2D Modelling and Animation: Learn mathematical and scientific concepts through modelling and animation in MS-Excel
2. Modeling Phase
Registration Fee
Category: Indian Participants: Students ₹500 Professionals ₹ 2000
Category: Foreign Participants: Students ₹2000 Professionals ₹3000
Note: If fewer than 20 entries are received during the registration period, the organizers reserve the right to extend, postpone, or cancel the contest.
After Registration
Upon successful registration, participants must join the Google Classroom using the code provided in the confirmation email. All contest updates, guidelines, and submission instructions will be available there.
Prizes and Certificates
The organizers' decision will be final and binding.
If multiple correct entries are received, the earliest correct submission will be declared the winner.
To maintain fairness, individual entries will not be shared publicly, and no queries regarding evaluations will be entertained.
