THE LOST CHUMAK
The Sadok Ukrainian Dance Ensemble of Vernon, B.C.
Come for an afternoon of Dance, Music, and Ukrainian Spirit!
Join the Sadok Ukrainian Dance Ensemble as they celebrate 25 years of sharing their Ukrainian Canadian culture with the world. This year’s special performance features Pokotillo Ukrainian Dancers of Kamloops and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Thompson Okanagan Choir.
Known for their vibrant choreography and rich storytelling, Sadok has performed throughout Western Canada, the U.S., and Ukraine, including appearances at Disneyland and the Calgary Ukrainian Festival. Their energetic performances celebrate the beauty and resilience of Ukrainian heritage, captivating audiences of all backgrounds.
This year’s show tells the story of the Chumaky—Ukrainian salt peddlers whose trade routes once connected communities across the land. Blending history, dance, and emotion, the production follows a lost Chumak on his journey of adventure and love, featuring a tribute performance of the famous “Whip Dance” by Sadok dancer Porter Johnson.
Choreographed by Artistic Director Andrea Malysh, this marks her 30th theatrical production, drawing on over 40 years of Ukrainian folk dance and ethnographic study.
As the war in Ukraine continues, Sadok dedicates this performance to those enduring hardship and welcomes donations to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation Humanitarian Aid Fund.
