Ann-Marie has alredy let you GEEKS know, however for those sleepy GEEKS out there, a reminder that it is approaching that time of year again, when we drag our festive costumes out of the wardrobe for the now TRADITIONAL annual Owdham Running Geeks run (the 12th version - which gets bigger and better each year).
Like the last few years, the plan is exactly the same. On Saturday 20th December 2025, the Geeks will meet again and start our run at 8.00am from Bishop Park Pitch and Putt at Grains Bar, in Oldham.
We will either meet at Alexandra Park and leave by 7.30am for those who want to carshare, or alternatively meet at Bishops Park by 7.50am. Please arrange your own carshare as normal. Anyone struggling with carshare, then drop a message on here and I am sure a fellow GEEK will help out. Remember photo call at 7.55am so be there by then to get on the annual photo (however we now have our traditional second photo at the Xmas tree at Mumps).
Just before sunrise at 8.00am, the Geeks will shout, jingle and dance to the rising sun and then set off to run down Ripponden Road and Huddersfield Road to arrive at Oldham Parkrun just before 9am.
All abilities and ages welcome and no one left behind. Nice easy downhill in a festive flash of colour bringing smiles and festive cheer to the Oldhamers lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the passing Santa’s, Elves and Christmas characters !
Fancy Dress is optional, however strongly encouraged, together with music and anything else that you can think of to bring the Xmas spirit. You can even bring the mother in law.
So let’s make this the best ever Rise of the Geeks and see if we can beat last year’s total of 126 runners. It would be great to better this.
Christmas is not Christmas unless you run with the GEEKS. So, let’s see you all there. Remember we leave exactly at 8.00am (and photo call is at 7.55am) to make the parkrun for 9.00am.
Please share and encourage new GEEKS to attend this fantastic annual event. RUNNERS OF ALL ABILITIES WELCOME. THIS IS A FUN SOICAL RUN TO CELEBRATE.
