Understanding ACEs

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)—including abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction—can have lasting effects on a person's physical health, emotional well-being, and development. A trauma-informed perspective is essential for understanding the experiences of children and families involved in child welfare systems. Understanding ACEs training explores how trauma shapes behavior and decision-making, offering insight into the challenges families face beyond what is visible in case records. Participants gain a deeper understanding of trauma responses and resilience, supporting thoughtful, compassionate consideration of child welfare situations and outcomes.

Seating capacity is limited to 30. Once we reach capacity, registrants will be automatically added to a waitlist.

Learning Objectives:

• Understand the significance of the ACE Study
• Be able to list some common behavioral and health impacts of ACEs
• Describe the difference between Positive Stress and Toxic Stress
• Know the 4 R's of Trauma-Informed Care
• Begin to recognize when behavior may be a trauma response
