CAST OVERVIEW: 1 Woman, 3 Men. All actors appear 50s and have known each other since college. Younger and older than 50s are encouraged to audition as long as you can appear 50s.
TJ – The alpha of the group. Can be boisterous and bigger than life. Professionally, he is the creative head of an ad agency. He’s under pressure to step down from his position due to his age (aren’t all creative geniuses under 30?). He’s divorced and has a dim view of relationships now. He and Jessie have history as they had a relationship that ended badly. He’s ready to kick back for the weekend and forget his age and the outside world.
JESSIE – Strong, smart, quick, and used to being in charge. She’s a doctor and mother. She’s the beloved wife of their absent friend Adrian. She and TJ had a brief fling in college. She comes to the cabin this weekend to do a tough chore, but avoids doing it until her back is against the wall. Despite her occasional snarkiness, we should like her.
MARK – A nice guy who can be a sad sack at times. He’s a professional writer who was recently let go from his newspaper and is trying to survive on some freelance jobs. He’s happily married but nervous about the future. Like his friends, he wants to forget his troubles the weekend. Also, he hopes the very successful Adrian can help him get a job. He often goes along to get along and loves his friends.
RICHARD – A nice guy who, until recently, was very active - a vice president at his company, a church deacon, studied French, and took cooking classes, until he was hit with a stroke. His right side is affected as well as his speech. He has the most trouble with the “s” sound, which comes out like “th.” He often needs translation from his buddy Mark.
SYNOPSIS:
A group of middle-aged buddies reunites for a "guys' weekend" in a snowed-in cabin to eat chili, drink beer, and relive the good old days. Despite divorce, unemployment, and a stroke, spirits are high until Jessie, the wife of absent friend Adrian, shows up in his place. An epic battle of wits and stamina ensues!
"A masterpiece of modern silliness. Grennan's play deserves to become a staple of the genre." - Greg Boyle, Metro Kansas City Entertainment Editor, KC Active Magazine.
