Wreath Laying Ceremony - Honoring Corporal John (Scott) Gardener & Corporal Arlie Jones

In 2007, Corporals Scott Gardner, Arlie Jones, and Abel Marquez made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to a domestic violence call.

Upon arrival, the victim informed them that her husband had assaulted her. Upon arrival, the officers attempted to enter the home when the suspect opened fire, tragically taking the lives of Corporals Jones and Gardner and critically wounding Corporal Marquez.

In honor of their service and sacrifice, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at sunrise at the Odessa Police Department. The wreath will remain at OPD's Memorial Statue throughout the day before being respectfully retired at sundown.

The Odessa community is invited to visit the memorial statue to honor his memory and pay their respects.

Corporal John Gardener and Corporal Arlie Jones dedication and courage will never be forgotten. End of Watch: September 8, 2007.
We will pay tribute to Abel Marquez on September 12th, the day of his death.
