Légende
Komponeret af George Enescui (1881–1955)
Trompet: Oldřich Engelhart
Klaver: Berit Rasmussen
Légende for trumpet and piano by the Romanian composer George Enescu. Written in 1906, this piece is considered one of the most important works in the trumpet repertoire. Enescu dedicated it to the renowned trumpeter Merri Franquin, professor at the Paris Conservatoire.
In Légende, songlike lyricism and delicate expressiveness intertwine with dramatic contrasts and virtuosic brilliance. The work reflects Enescu’s remarkable ability to combine French elegance with profound Eastern European emotion — resulting in a compelling, almost narrative musical story, as the title itself suggests.
Bagatelle
Komponeret af Hermann Neuling (1897 – 1967)
Horn: Linea Mehlsen
Klaver: Berit Juul Rasmussen
Bagatelle is composed by the german french horn player Hermann Neuling, and has become a standart audition piece in modern times for the low horn parts. Neuling was a low horn player himself, and expertly designed this piece to challenge the low horn player in every aspect expected of a modern horn player.
Prelude et Ballade
Af Guillaume Balay (1871 – 1943)
Trompet: Peter Daniel Bang
Klaver: Berit Rasmussen
Guillaume Balay studied cornet and composition at Conservatoire de Paris. Later he conducted various military orchestras in France until he won the position as Chef de Musique de la Garde Rebuplicane in 1911, which he took over from Gabriel Parés. The piece is dedicated to Alexandre Petit who was the cornet professor at Conservatoire de Paris. Petit was also often soloist with Garde Rebublicane.
Caprice
Komponeret af Robert Planel (1908 – 1994)
Horn: Sasha Marie Lund Nielsen
Klaver: Berit Juul Rasmussen
French composer and violinist Robert Planel, a winner of the Prix de Rome, belonged to a generation of musicians who carried forward the lyrical and refined traditions of French music. Written in 1944, Caprice for horn and piano reveals Planel’s gift for combining brilliance and grace. The piece highlights the horn’s wide expressive range — from warm, singing melodies to agile, playful passages — all shaped by the clarity and elegance of French neoclassical style. Both technically demanding and musically engaging, Caprice remains a favourite among horn players for its charm and vitality.
Sonata for Trumpet and Piano
1. Mit Kraft
2. Mässig bewegt
3. Trauermusik. “Alle Menschen müssen sterben”
Komponeret af Paul Hindemith (1895 – 1963)
Trompet: Miquel Pla Forcadell
Klaver: Berit Rasmussen
Hindemith wrote his Sonata for Trumpet and Piano in 1939, just as World War II was beginning. Having fled Nazi Germany, he was living in exile, watching his homeland descend into chaos. The sonata opens with a sense of determination — music that seems to stand firm against a darkening world. The second movement turns inward, a moment of quiet reflection and sorrow for what has been lost. Finally, the work ends with a solemn chorale, “Alle Menschen müssen sterben” — All men must die — not as despair, but as acceptance and faith in something enduring beyond conflict.

Concerto no. 3 in E flat major kv. 477
1. Allegro
Komponeret af Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 – 1791)
Horn: Sasha Marie Lund Nielsen
Klaver: Berit Juul Rasmussen
Concerto no. 3, is one of the 4 concertos that were written for his friend Joseph Leutgeb, whom he had known since childhood. Mozart loved teasing his friends, and often wrote stuff in the scores like "come on, not again" and "you'll never hit that note".
Sonatina for Trumpet
Af Bohuslav Martinů (1890 – 1959)
Trompet: Lumír Rataj
Klaver: Berit Rasmussen
Bohuslav Martinů was a Czech composer, violinist, pedagogue and music critic. His artistic development progressed from impressionism through neoclassicism, expressionism and jazz inspiration to a purely compositional style of his own. Stylistically, he is closest to the generation of neo-classicists such as Arthur Honegger, Béla Bartók and others.
Sonatina for trumpet and piano, H. 357 is a composition by Bohuslav Martinů completed in New York on February 2, 1956.
Although we often encounter the opinion that this Sonatina is a classical performance for the solo instrument trumpet and piano as its accompaniment, the "accompanying" piano has such an elaborate part here that it rather belongs in the category of chamber music, which is also where the Bohuslav Martinů Institute's catalog of compositions.
Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra
1. Allegro Moderato
Komponeret af John Williams (1932 – )
Tuba: Giovanni Giribardi
Klaver: Berit Rasmussen
To celebrate the centenary of the Boston Pops Orchestra in 1985, Williams was commissioned to compose the Tuba Concerto, dedicated to Chester Schmitz, the group’s solo tuba player. Premièred in May of that year with Williams on the podium, the concerto highlights the technical and tonal ranges of both the tuba and its performer. A fragment from the Superman theme can be heard in the first movement.
Trumpet Concerto
Komponeret af Alexander Arutiunian (1920 – 2012)
Trompet: Ondřej Dvořák
Klaver: Berit Rasmussen
Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra stands as one of the most vibrant and enduring works in the trumpet repertoire. Written shortly after the Second World War, the concerto combines a heroic spirit with the rich melodic flavour of Armenian folk music.
The work opens with a bold, declamatory fanfare and unfolds as a single continuous movement with contrasting sections — brilliant and rhythmically charged episodes alternating with moments of heartfelt lyricism. The famous cadenza, created by legendary Soviet trumpeter Timofei Dokschitzer, has since become inseparable from the concerto itself. Expansive, virtuosic, and deeply expressive, it brings the soloist’s artistry to the forefront and bridges the lyrical and triumphant final sections with breathtaking intensity.
