About the event

'BIRD WHISTLING AND BAT SOUNDS' - night walk in nature

Stavns Fjord is a fantastic natural area in the middle of Samsø. There is a rich birdlife here and at dusk it can be clearly heard. Sandpipers, great shearwaters, geese, ducks and seagulls perform a symphony like no other. We are going out to hear it.

We also use electronic aids to reveal some of the sounds we cannot hear: the calls of bats. What species of bats are found in the area? How do they find their way around at night?

Children are welcome, so bring the whole family. It is perfectly okay to slip away when the children (or the adults) get too tired.

Practical information:

Meeting point: Kanhave 1, 8305 Samsø (at the “boat” in Kanhavekanalen)

The sunset over Sælvigbugten is at 7:59 p.m., so it is obvious to enjoy it first. We will be out all evening, so clothing according to the weather and practical footwear is an advantage. We have lanterns with us so we can see where we are going. Leave the headlamp at home.

We have 6 bat detectors that you can borrow on the trip. They are plug-in ultrasonic microphones that plug into your smartphone's charging port (type USB-C). To use the detectors, you need the app "Echo Meter Touch Bat Detector" from Wildlife Acoustics. The app is free and can be downloaded via Google Play or Appstore.

The night walk is arranged by Samsø Naturskole and supported by Friluftsrådet.

The event is part of the GRØN MUSIK festival - se more here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1082568096588638
