Jacumba Hikers: Sand Dune in the Sky

This is a difficult and challenging hike in NW Davies Valley near Ocotillo. It’s a 5-6 mile hike (approximately 1800 feet elevation gain/loss) that will take about 5 hours. The hike involves hiking off trail, some boulder climbing, hiking up steep sandy hills, plus other rugged desert terrain challenges. It’s a strenuous hike, but you’ll later be able to point to the “Sand Dune in the Sky” from I-8 to show your friends and family where you hiked!

Leaves at 8:00 AM from the Imperial Valley Desert Museum parking lot. We will carpool/caravan in high-clearance vehicles to the trailhead.

Please Note: While we do our best to accurately describe the hikes and their difficulty levels, please know your own limits and capabilities! A hike that is easy or moderate for some may be difficult or extreme for others, depending on hiking experience, skill level, and physical capabilities. Also, please be prepared! Comfortable hiking shoes with good traction, 2-3 liters of water, a hat, and a backpack (to carry your own water, snacks, emergency/First-Aid supplies, and other gear) are essential items on these challenging hikes. Hiking poles may be helpful. No dogs allowed!
