The Ocean City Museum Society, a local non-profit organization, will host an exciting new fundraiser, the Next Wave Beach Bash, on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the Ocean City Performing Arts Center. The evening's headliner is Shaun Tomson — World Champion Surfer, best-selling author, motivational speaker, entrepreneur, and environmentalist.
Community members of all ages are invited to be part of this inspirational event, which includes a keynote address by Shaun Tomson, a screening of the acclaimed film Bustin’ Down the Door, raffles, book signings, a cash bar, and opportunities to reconnect with old friends and make new ones.
During his keynote, Shaun will share the wisdom of The Code — a series of life-changing mantras centered around the power of saying “I will.” His message emphasizes personal empowerment, perseverance, and purpose.
Following the keynote, guests will enjoy Bustin’ Down the Door on the big screen — a documentary that captures a defining era in surf history. Featuring Shaun Tomson, Mark Richards, Ian Cairns, Rabbit Bartholomew, and Peter Townend, the film chronicles the revolutionary rise of a group of surfers in the mid-1970s. The Hollywood Reporter praised it as an “insightful account of the rise of a, pardon the pun, new wave of surfers that transformed the sport in the mid-1970s.”
In addition to the talk and film screening, guests will have the opportunity to purchase and have Shaun sign his book, The Surfer and the Sage. The event will also feature raffles, giveaways, photo ops with Shaun, and more. Whether you're a longtime surfer, local resident, visitor, or just looking for a meaningful evening out, this event is not to be missed.
Proceeds benefit the Ocean City Museum Society, which is committed to preserving the history of Ocean City through engaging programs and exhibits, fostering a deeper appreciation for local culture, and serving as a valuable resource for research and preservation. Be sure to visit the Society’s two museum locations: the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum at the Inlet and the new Museum of Ocean City, located at Dorchester Street and Baltimore Avenue.
The Ocean City Museum Society is currently seeking sponsors for the Next Wave Beach Bash. Sponsorships are tax-deductible. For more information, please contact Erin Jones at
