6:00 – 6:40 PM | Birds and Conservation Lecture with Naomi Shanti & Megan Abram
A joint presentation highlighting conservation efforts in Florida, featuring personal insights from Naomi Shanti’s work as a Conservation Easements Coordinator and Megan Abram’s work as Agricultural Lands Outreach Specialist. This 30-minute lecture will explore how land protection helps sustain the delicate ecosystems that native birds and wildlife depend on.
6:45 – 7:30 PM | Artist Talk with Naomi Shanti, Moderated by Dr. Leslie Hammond
Naomi will discuss her journey from full-time tattoo artist to full-time conservationist, and how this transformation led to her latest series, A Brush with Birds. This new body of work blends traditional painting, aerial photography, and cartography to honor the families and lands that inspire conservation.
Guiding the conversation is Dr. Leslie Hammond, Founder and President of Artistic Eye Fine Art Services. With decades of experience as an Art Historian, Archaeologist, and Museum Professional, Dr. Hammond brings depth and insight to this engaging discussion.
About the Artist: Naomi Shanti
Naomi Shanti is a Florida-based artist whose 16-year career includes exhibitions in museums, galleries, and art festivals across the U.S. In her current role at Alachua Conservation Trust, Naomi combines her creative and environmental passions, using drone photography, mapping techniques, and painting to visually document and celebrate land conservation.
In A Brush with Birds, she tells the stories of Florida’s native landscapes and the families who protect them, weaving together science, heritage, and art to inspire environmental stewardship across generations.
“I hope that through my work, you will feel a connection to the gifts the land offers to us, to you, and to your family. It is this connection that intertwines our past, present, and future.”
