Taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge is an incredible achievement - but it’s also a serious physical undertaking.
Over the course of 24 hours, you'll climb more than 3,000 metres, cover around 23 miles of rugged terrain, and spend long periods walking, climbing, and traveling with limited rest. The challenge pushes your stamina, strength, and mental resilience - especially in unpredictable weather and varying mountain conditions.
To take part safely and enjoyably, you'll need to be:
-Comfortable walking for several hours at a time, over steep, uneven ground
-Physically prepared for multiple ascents and descents, including hiking in the dark
-Able to recover quickly between climbs, with minimal sleep and time to rest
It’s not about being an athlete
You don’t need to be an ultra-marathon runner: but regular walking, strength training, and endurance exercises in the lead-up are non-negotiable. Fitness is key not only for your safety and success, but for the team’s momentum and morale.
