Mystery Lovers Bookshop is pleased to announce that the 2025 Annual ARC Fundraiser will be held January 24th from 10 am-1pm. All donations collected will benefit FIRST BOOK.
What is the Annual ARC Fundraiser:
As a bookseller we receive hundreds of Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) books from publishers. The books are for booksellers/purchasers to read and determine if they would like to carry the book in the store, a preview copy. We receive hundreds of these books a year! We read (as many as we can) and collect the ARCs all year in anticipation of this event. On February 22nd we will put these books out and you are invited to come and take them! We do ask that in return for your free books you make a donation that you determine and are comfortable with.
Who is the beneficiary?
First Book is dedicated to ensuring that all children, regardless of their background or zip code, can succeed and reach their full potential. We reach 6.5 million kids each year in low-income communities across North America, providing books and resources through a powerful network of more than 600,000 individual educators, professionals and volunteers specifically serving children in need. This is the largest online community of its kind. By infusing high-quality resources into classrooms and programs nationwide, we level the playing field so that kids are ready to learn — because education transforms lives.
Poverty is reshaping education. Fifty-one percent of students across the nation’s public schools — 27 million children — are from low-income families; coming to school without even their basic needs met and under extreme stress. Moreover, the schools don’t have the funding necessary to address those needs.
Many of these children struggle with hunger, homelessness, violence, and lack of access to clean clothes, proper hygiene materials or relevant educational resources. Ensuring that children are in the right headspace to learn means tackling all the problems that are holding them back. As a result, these kids are behind in their education from the start and almost never catch up. The impact is devastating.
