Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park
Canyon Meadow Staging Area, Oakland, United States
Oakland is named for the coast live oak, but the redwood forest in the Oakland hills has played an important role in California history. This forest served as a navigation aid for sailing ships in the first part of the 19th century, as building material for Bay Area towns during the gold rush, and perhaps even as the inspiration for the name of a (formally) local football team.
TOTAL DISTANCE
This is a moderate hike of about four miles with several hundred feet in elevation change.
LEADER
Carolyn Schour.
COST
There is a $5/vehicle park entrance fee.
WHERE TO MEET
We'll assemble at the Canyon Meadow Staging Area. Enter the park at the Redwood Gate entrance off Redwood Road. Drive to the paved parking lot at the end of the road. If that lot is full, you can circle back to one of the overflow lots along the entrance road. There are restrooms near the beginning of the hike, and also along the way.
NOTES
Bring water and lunch, dress in layers, and wear good hiking shoes. Bring poles if you normally use them. If you have any questions about this outing, email Ken Lavin at a2xhdmluIHwgZ3JlZW5iZWx0ICEgb3Jn.
