Celebrate the 10th year of welcoming visitors and learn about the Garden's four interpretive themes from an expert panel of scientists, historians and educators!
Through presentations and a panel discussion, guests will be taken on a journey through the four key interpretive themes that inform all of the work Pittsburgh Botanic Garden does: Brady Crytzer covering History of the Land, Matt Sarver on Conservation & Restoration, Dr. Mark Miller discussing Botany & Horticulture, and Doug Jones speaking about how Nature Nurtures.
Tickets include one complimentary drink ticket and there will be a cash bar and hors d'oeuvres available during the event.
Meet the Panelists:
Doug Oster (Moderator) - Doug Oster is a writer, radio and television host, and Emmy-winning producer. He currently hosts The Organic Gardener Radio Show every Sunday morning at 7am on KDKA Radio, and writes feature articles for Pittsburgh Earth Day’s Green Voice e-newsletter.
Dr. Mark Miller (Botany & Horticulture) - Dr. Mark Miller is the Education & Exhibits Director at Pittsburgh Botanic Garden. He earned his Ph.D. in Environment & Natural Resources at The Ohio State University and has over 40 years experience working as a landscape designer, tree crop specialist, educator, and director at botanical institutions and associations around the country.
Doug Jones (Nature Nurtures) - Doug Jones received his certification as a Forest Therapy Guide in 2020 from the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs (ANFT). Prior to beginning his Forest Therapy practice, he worked as an independent psychologist in Sewickley, Pennsylvania and at Sewickley Academy for over 30 years. In retirement, his goal is to guide walks as a way of staying in service to others and nature.
Brady Crytzer (History of the Land) - With seven books to his credit, Brady J. Crytzer is the winner of the 2023 Judge Robert K. Woltz History Award. A specialist in frontier history, Crytzer is a narrator and commentator on the hit cable series “Into the Wild Frontier” on NBC Peacock and “Outlaws and Lawmen” on FOX News. He has been featured on CSPAN and SiriusXM and is the host of the Telly Award Winning cable series Battlefield Pennsylvania on the PCN, and the winner of the Donna J. McKee and Donald S. Kelly Awards for Outstanding Scholarship and Service in History.
Matt Sarver (Conservation & Restoration) - Matthew Sarver is the owner/principal of Sarver Ecological, LLC. Matt holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, cum laude, from Cornell University with a concentration in Neurobiology and Animal Behavior. He has more than 15 years of field experience in ecology, wildlife biology, botany, entomology, herpetology, and land management.
