The American Museum of Science and Energy (AMSE) is opening its doors to the community with a Volunteer Open House on Thursday, October 2, from 5:30–7:30 PM at 115 E. Main Street in Oak Ridge.
The event offers an opportunity for community members to learn how they can contribute their time, talents, and enthusiasm to one of Oak Ridge’s most dynamic cultural institutions. Whether interested in welcoming visitors, supporting tours of historic Manhattan Project sites, assisting with educational programming, exhibits or participating in new initiatives like Citizen Science Birding, volunteers play a vital role in helping AMSE fulfill its mission of inspiring curiosity and preserving history.
“Volunteers are the energy behind AMSE,” said Courtney Beard, Director of Public Programming. “They bring our programs to life, connect with visitors, and help us showcase Oak Ridge’s unique history and contributions to science and technology. This open house is our way of inviting the community to join that important work.”
Attendees will:
Meet current staff and volunteers
Explore opportunities across departments
Learn how to match their skills and interests with museum needs
Enjoy light refreshments and enter a drawing for door prizes
The event is free and open to the public. For more information or to RSVP, contact Courtney Beard at
