O'Fallon Municipal Center (City Hall), at the 9/11 Memorial
On September 11, 2001, there were 2,977 people who died in the horrific attacks that changed our country forever. We promised not to forget, and we havenโt. ๐ฆ๐ช๐ต๐ด ๐ฝ๐ธ ๐ป๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฝ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ถ.
A 17-foot memorial, A Tribute to First Responders, was created from 22 tons of steel salvaged from the destruction of the World Trade Center and is located in the east lot of O'Fallon City Hall. It is dedicated to the 346 firefighters and 37 police officers who perished as they attempted to rescue victims trapped in the World Trade Centerโs Twin Towers. ๐ฆ๐ช๐ต๐ด ๐ฝ๐ธ ๐ฑ๐ธ๐ท๐ธ๐ป ๐ฝ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ถ.
The morning begins with a ceremony at the 9/11 memorial at 8:30am, followed by a 1-mile walk at 9am that reflects on the sacrifices made, honors those who continue to inspire us, and ends in a show of patriotism along Main Street.
Prior to the start of the walk, pick up photos and stories of the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice when they ran into the danger to help others. ๐ฆ๐ช๐ต๐ด ๐๐ฒ๐ฝ๐ฑ ๐ฝ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ถ ๐ฝ๐ธ ๐ผ๐ฑ๐ธ๐ ๐ฝ๐ฑ๐ช๐ฝ ๐ฝ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ ๐ช๐ป๐ฎ ๐ท๐ธ๐ฝ ๐ฏ๐ธ๐ป๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ท.
