Join Us for the Barossa Waterbug Bioblitz!
A BioBlitz is a one-day citizen science event that brings together volunteers, scientists, and nature lovers to record as many species as possible within a specific area. Whether you're an experienced naturalist, a curious beginner, or simply looking for a great way to spend time outdoors, this is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in local conservation and explore the incredible biodiversity in your own backyard.
At the Barossa Waterbug Bioblitz, community groups, organisations, and individuals will work alongside aquatic ecologists to gather important data on macroinvertebrates (waterbugs) and water quality in local waterways. You'll learn from experts how to collect waterbug samples and measure water quality, contributing valuable data to help monitor and protect our rivers and creeks.
What’s involved? Participants will help collect macroinvertebrate species and water quality data, which is used to:
The Waterbug Bioblitz works closely with Waterwatch and other citizen science programs to build a comprehensive picture of the health of our waterways.
No prior experience is needed – training and equipment are provided. Just bring your enthusiasm and a sense of adventure!
