Aquatic Ape
A conscious hip-hop duo from Nottingham.
Sean Gore is well known in the Nottingham poetry community, particularly for his work with Poets Off The Endz, as well as a myriad different events that have taken place throughout the city. He was also known as Dub Ryda back in the day, and performed at many electronic music events such as Detonate, KWG, Basslaced and more.
bon joote is a producer and multi-instrumentalist. He was, once upon a time, a figure in the Nottingham electronic music scene under his alias Anex. Over the years, he has been honing his craft as a producer and musician and is now responsible for a large body of work, including solo pieces and his work with Aquatic Ape.
Aquatic Ape formed during the COVID-19 lockdowns. It began very simply - bon was producing hip hop instrumentals and Sean was writing lyrics and recording them. This sparked a wonderful journey spanning the last 4 years, which has led to the duo presenting a live show, complete with live musicians.
Expect heartfelt lyrics, infectious grooves, and a key emphasis on embodying a loose, almost improvisational sound, as the band take you through live re-imaginings of their body of work.
