Tapped In: Creative Magic

Hey, it’s Sarah. In the years I’ve spent both teaching and painting, I’ve come to notice a few things:

1. A lot of people think artistic talent is something you’re born with.
2. Many of us crave rules and structure, and somewhere along the way we forgot how to play.
3. We’re quick to say things like “I tried once and was awful,” “but mine won’t look like yours,” or “I wish I could do that.”

I’ve disagreed with those notions for a long time. As kids, we dove into things without worrying about mistakes. We made a mess, tried again, and never thought twice about whether it was “good enough.” Somewhere in adulthood we lose that freedom, but it doesn’t have to stay lost.

I believe we all carry a little creative magic inside us, it just doesn’t always get the room it needs to breathe. When we nurture it, that spark becomes a way to decompress, relax, and transform what’s swirling inside into something tangible. Art gives us space to release, reset, and reconnect with ourselves.

This month’s class is all about tending to that creative spark. Together we’ll explore watercolor and ink (there is designated subject or end goal—abstract shapes, organic forms, or playful everyday objects are all welcome), pair it with some light writing and mindfulness exercises, and let music and good vibes guide the process.
