Home for the Holidays
We're at home for the holidays for December.
We are going to be holding this month on the 2nd Thursday to keep it before the holidays.
We look forward to seeing you here for another enjoyable practice tournament.
both rapier and armored fighters welcome as well as anyone who would like to help run Lists, Marshal or herald.
Fighters should start arriving and gearing up before 8 pm. Circle up for discussion on knightly Virtues at 8pm straight into fighting.
The words below come from the very first Tournament announcement, and do an excellent job at describing our goals and passion for this event:
To become a knight you need not only Prowess.
Humility, Faith, Franchise, Honor, Valor, Courtesy: these also are the virtues of a Knight.
To win a tournament takes tournament practice. The goal of this tournament will be to practice every aspect of a Crown tournament, and the results of winning.
Inspired by Le Crapaud tournament in the West, Sir Artus Quintus, Master Paul Fitz Denis, and Sir Helgi hersir hrafnfaedhir, invite you all to the Tournament of the Virtues.
Winner is named Keeper of Prowess for the next month. The winner shall be known as "Le Mareschal" after William Marshall. Vive le Mareschal!
Winner will name one other person present for their exemplification of another Virtue and name them Keeper of Virtue. This person will be known as the Paragon of (virtue). Vive le Paragon!
This is not an official SCA event and will operate differently in some ways.
*The tournament will open with a circle of all fighters who will then make a toast and speak about a subject.
**This is to learn the public speaking skills required when winning a Crown.
**Your toast can be as long or short as you want.
**Referencing actual medieval history is a plus!
*The tournament will end with a circle of all fighters, and any others present who wish to participate, who will then make a toast and speak about a subject.
*Fighters will be asked to assist in the running of the tourney as Marshals, Heralds, and Lists.
*Lists will run Bellatrix style (double elimination, blind, by the numbers) or round robin, depending on turnout.
*First round challenges as in a Crown tourney.
*Fighters will line up in order of Fighting precedence. Duke, Count, Viscount, Knight, grant level fighting awards, AoA level fighting awards, squires, non-squires.
*Consorts are not required.
*Fighters will use their preferred weapon style.
**It is possible that we change that some months to prepare for Crown
**Eg: you must fight Great Weapon first round at the next Crown so we will do the same for this tourney
*Fighters should watch as many fights as possible to learn. That is why we are doing this!
*Fights SHOULD be stopped to help everyone learn, when necessary. Example: We will stop for flat shots and help correct form.
*All fights will use the full Litany and marshal checks.
*Fighters should clearly show defeat, through falling down or other means.
*Unlike Crown, the winner may participate in the Lists in subsequent tourneys, however they will be expected to bring a different weapons form than they won with.
