Join Peggy MacLeod and Hobie Iselin to explore the East Meadows’ diverse habitats for migrating songbird species such as sparrows, flycatchers and late warblers, plus accipiters. If seasonal rain has created wading puddles, we’ll look for shore birds such as sandpipers, lesser and greater yellowlegs, herons, and ducks. The trip will involve easy travel on flat ground, but bring appropriate footwear in case there is mud or wet grass. Park on Old Ferry Road (off Route 9) on the west side of the airport runway in a grassy area a couple hundred yards beyond the Rt 91 underpass. To shorten walking time and distance, we may be able to carpool in 2–3 vehicles from the airport parking area to go farther out into the target areas. Please note there are no facilities or rest areas at this location. Limited to 12 participants. (E)
