Forró Roots Dance Classes - Session 1, 2026

In the world of Brazilian dance, if Samba is the queen then Forró is the king!

Forró is a partner dance with a number of styles from different regions in Brazil. The two most prominent styles are Universitário which is led mainly with hands, and Roots which is led mainly with body and leg movements.

Forró Roots is a new style of forró that began at forró events in Itaúnas/ES around the 2010s. It introduces intrinsic and complex leg movements, mostly originating and modified from Tango and Samba de Gafieira. It is danced to older style and traditional forró songs that go back to Rootstock forró festivals and similar events.

Roots style has subtle leads, dynamic and playful movements, and is generally danced to faster forró music. Maintaining body connection with your partner & holding your balance is a vital aspect - akin to Tango and Samba de Gafieira.

Session 1 runs for 8 weeks each Wednesday evening 6:45pm to 8:45pm - commencing Wed 28/Jan and finishing on Wed 18/Mar

The Schedule is:

• 6:45pm to 7:15pm - FREE Forró Roots class (30 mins)
• 7:15pm to 7:30pm - FREE Practice (15 mins)
• 7:30pm to 8:45pm - MAIN Forró Roots class - ticketed (1 hr 15 mins)

SINGLE PASS: Forró Roots single class fee $25

TERM PASS: Forró Roots full term fee $175

DOOR FEE: There is a flat fee of $30 for attendance without registration.

Please read these conditions of sale carefully:

• Tickets are strictly non-refundable. You can request a refund from the organiser but it will be entirely at their discretion as to whether any compensation will apply, and their decision is final
• Each ticket can be allocated to a person of the purchaser's choice ONCE ONLY and cannot be reallocated or re-sold to others. The dance instructors will use the ticket allocations to make forward plans for each class

Info: This class is ideal for people who are starting to dance forró. It is also for leaders who are learning to follow, followers who are learning to lead, and to brush up your technique.

Info: Mixed practice session with people at different levels of their forró journey

Info: This is a long lesson with two parts and a break in the middle for practice. In the first part we will generally be learning a dance technique that is important to a move or sequence. In the second we will add footwork and postural aspects to complete a move or sequence - dancing from slower to very fast tempos
