🧶🧷What to expect:
We repurpose pre-loved uniforms into awesome clothing for children in need on behalf of Qld charity Uniforms 4 Kids.
Fabric, elastic and thread is supplied free by U4K and all clothing created is donated back to U4K, and the agency that supplied the uniforms will gift the clothing to children in need.
For new sewists/people wanting to learn to sew:
If you are a beginner, we will help you develop your basic sewing skills and knowledge. To do this, you will create a skirt for U4K from start to finish! You will learn about fabric, cut out skirt pattern pieces, construct the skirt, use an overlocker, use an iron, add an elastic waistband, hem the skirt and learn to top stitch. Have a look at our photos to see what a brand new sewist can achieve in a couple of hours! You can continue to develop your skills by increasing the complexity of each U4K project you make by adding pockets to a skirt, making shorts, making a reversible bucket hat.....
For experienced sewists:
You can work on U4K projects or help our new sewists. Alternatively, you can BYO project to work on.
resewable is not a formal structured sewing class. We are a group of sewing and social enthusiasts who like to share our sewing skills and experience with others, we have a lot of fun making new friendships, we don't take things too seriously, and we like giving back to the community.
🧶🧷What if I don't sew?
This is a social event too! You are welcome to just hang out and connect with your community. Or you can debrand the uniform items or cut out really simple patterns for the sewists. We will find something for you to do if you want to get involved.
🧶🧷Who can join in?
Anyone aged 10 years+ is welcome to join in, so if you know of anyone who might be interested, please share the details with them. Children aged 10-17 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.
🧶🧷What equipment is available?
We will have two sewing machines and two overlockers available for use on the day, as well as the usual sewing accessories such as dressmaking scissors, marking tools, rulers, measuring tapes, pins & clips, irons and unpickers. If you are unsure how to use any of the equipment, we will help you!
🧶🧷What should I bring?
If you have your own sewing equipment, please bring it along if you are able to, as this will free up the sewing machines and overlockers for our new sewists.
🧶🧷Do I need to bring drinks and snacks?
Water, DIY tea and coffee, and biscuits will be available.
BYO snacks and speciality coffee ☕ as the onsite cafe will be unavailable.
🧶🧷Is there parking?
Parking is available onsite or there is free street parking. Please don't park in a neighbouring business carpark.
🧶🧷Does this cost anything?
There is no entry fee. We want resewable to be free so that learning to sew is accessible for everyone.
We can do this because U4K supplies all the material, elastic and thread for their clothing projects and Church Unlimited provides the space for us to host our events for free.
BYO projects are subject to your individual budget.
resewable is self-funded by the hosts, therefore, donations towards the costs of providing tea, coffee, biscuits, and sewing machine servicing are greatly appreciated.
🧶🧷Can I donate fabric or unused sewing items?
We provide a stash of extra fabrics and embellishments, threads etc that you can use for the U4K or BYO projects and we welcome small donations of supplies to keep these topped up. If you want to donate anything larger than a shopping bag size, please check with us, as we have limited storage space and have to transport everything with us for each event!
