Join us for a casual exploration of the origins of classical music through the eyes of the string quartet, featuring a select quartet of students from the CMC TWO educational program. Starting with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and then traveling through Europe for the music of Mozart and Schubert, this program demystifies classical music with entertaining anecdotes and insights that one may not expect at a traditional classical concert.
The performance features violinists Ava Whitener and Elijah Liu, violist Callie Williams, and cellist Myles Owens-Walker—accomplished students of the Charleston County School of the Arts and dedicated participants in the CMC TWO educational program. Now in their third year with CMC TWO, these young musicians receive professional coaching, masterclasses, and unique performance opportunities that strengthen their artistry and cultivate their commitment to chamber music.
Part of Chamber Music Charleston’s Youth Chamber Music Initiative, CMC TWO fosters a supportive environment for high school musicians who are passionate about chamber music. All program activities are provided free of charge, thanks to the generosity of individual donors and a grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission.
This program is part of CMC’s opening celebratory events for the launch of the 20th Anniversary Season. Other events include “The Winds of Revolution” on Sunday, September 21 the Season Opening Ovation Concert “Tango Meets Classical: Music of Bach, Mendelssohn, and Piazzolla” (Sunday, September 28 at 3pm).
